Donald Trump is a fascist clown. In two weeks, he could be president-elect.
ALSO INSIDE: Abortion rights groups are courting Latino voters in Arizona and Eminem and Pres. Obama rally with Harris supporters in Michigan.
I spent part of Sunday watching Donald Trump reiterate his assertion that Americans he doesn’t like are “the enemy within.”
On Monday, I transcribed Trump’s bizarre 12-minute ballad about Arnold Palmer and his genitalia.
On Tuesday, I read the harrowing yet thoroughly unsurprising new reporting from The Atlantic and The New York Times describing how Trump repeatedly praised Adolf Hitler, complained about the cost of burying a slain US Army private of Mexican descent, and frequently attacked and mocked American service members.
I can think of no better encapsulation of Trump than these three items. He is a fascist. He is also a clown and a coward. And in two weeks, he could be president-elect, despite having zero plans to help improve people’s lives and several plans to ruin them.
There’s going to be a lot of ink spilled about why Trump is still competitive, what kind of country we live in, whether Kamala Harris’ campaign is making the right decisions, whether polling is even accurate anymore, etc.
Here’s the reality: most of the hot takes and stories you see over the next two weeks will be utterly irrelevant to the voters who decide this election. They won’t see it.
The election is going to come down to the slimmest of margins in seven swing states — six of which we have newsrooms in. Over the next two weeks, our reporters will be doing what they always do – reporting on the stakes of this election instead of the horse race. We’re doing our part to make sure voters in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin – as well as the other states we operate in – understand what’s on the line and where the candidates stand.
We’ll see you in two weeks – in what could be a very different America.
