Three years after Jan. 6, right-wing extremism has only gotten worse
A MI Republican endorsed the death penalty for gay people, Trump says the Civil War could’ve been negotiated, and a 2020 election denier got physical with one of our reporters.
Saturday marked the three-year anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol, a deadly assault incited by former President Donald Trump as part of his effort to overturn the 2020 election results.
Since then, the Republican Party—with Trump as its leader–has drifted even further to the right, embracing all-out election denial, virulent homophobia, and extreme abortion bans.
In Pennsylvania, one of the nation’s leading election deniers and key schemers in Trump’s plan to overturn the 2020 results was Republican Congressman Scott Perry. Perry spread conspiracy theories and lies about the election, acted as a point person between state legislators and Trump officials when it came to trying to overturn Trump’s loss in the commonwealth, and pressured Trump’s Justice Department to conduct sham investigations into the election results.
On Saturday, The Keystone’s political correspondent Sean Kitchen caught up with Perry at the Pennsylvania Farm Show and asked the congressman about his role in trying to overturn the election.
